Don's paternal ancestors primarily have roots in the settlers of the German Coast area of the Louisiana colony upriver from New Orleans. They mainly arrived in Louisiana from French and German territories on both sides of the Rhine River. The original Bourgeois ancestor, however, arrived in the colony from the province of Acadie in Nouvelle-France.
