The nineteen-year-old Paul married the sixteen-year-old Anne Gaudin in St. James church in 1794. They were to have at least eight children. Paul died an early death in 1811 at age 35, five years before his father in 1816. The cause of his death is not known.
There is a note in the file from Dwayne Montz that Paul and Anne had infant twins, Jacques and Philip aged three months at the time of his death. There is a Jacques born around 1810 in Montz’s file but no Philip. There is no record of the twins’ baptism or burial.
To the relief of many on the east bank of St. James Parish, St. Michael’s Church in Convent was opened in 1809. The baptism of the seventh child, Marie Seraphine born 1808, was delayed until 1810, possibly waiting for St. Michael’s to open rather than crossing the river to St. James Church. All my ancestors and their relatives all had their baptism, marriage, and burial at St. Michael’s and other east bank churches from that time on.
Anne’s maiden name is shown as Godin rather than Gaudin in many records. How she supported herself after Paul’s death is not available. However, she did live until 1832. I have located a complete copy of her probate records at the family History Library but have not yet read and deciphered them.
