Not much is known of lives of this couple. Arthur’s first name appears spelled differently in several documents: Arthur, Orther, Otere. His ancestry is a mystery. From the baptismal entry we learn only his mother’s first name, Marie; that no father is mentioned; that his mother’s family resided in St. Michael’s church parish near Convent, Louisiana but the baptism was performed at St. John the Baptist church in Edgard, Louisiana. It would be easy to speculate as to the reason for a baptism in a church parish different from where they lived and with no father’s name listed. However, I will not speculate here because of the lack of any other factual information.
There is a large amount on Clementine’s ancestry. However, documentary evidence about her ancestors still needs more research.
The Tanguis, Tregre, and Bourgeois families are related in several different generations. In addition, there is a further relationship in the descendants of this couple. They are the great grandparents of Ellis and his siblings. Ellis’s sister, Etta Bourgeois, married Clifford Oscar Tonguis. Clifford’s father was Other Tanguis, Jr, the son and namesake of Other and Clementine. So, Etta and Clifford were first cousins, once removed.
