Johannes Schmidt and Maria Lang

This couple is part of the tenth generation going backwards from Ellis Bourgeois.  While we do not know when Johannes was born, we know that he was baptized May 4, 1614 in the Lutheran Church in Isny, Allgau, Wurttemberg, Germany.  From that baptism we know the names of his parents, Johannes Schmidt and Barbara Frick, but nothing else about them.   When there is a need to distinguish between the Johannes Schmidts, the German suffixes, vater and sohn, are used.

Johannes Schmidt first married Sabina Wurm on Jan 22, 1638 in the same Lutheran Church in Isny, Allgau, Wurttemberg, Germany.  They had three children Hans Jacob Schmid, baptized April 2, 1640, Sabina Schmid baptized September 23, 1641, and Georgius Schmid baptized August 18, 1644. None of these children are ancestors of Ellis Bourgeois.

Sabina Wurm died May 6, 1647.  With three young children, Johannes Schmidt quickly married a second time to Maria Lang on September 19, 1647 in the same Lutheran Church in Isny.  With his second wife Johannes had two children: Paulus Schmid baptized July 2,1648, and Catharina Schmid baptized August 16,1649 (both in the Lutheran Church in Isny).  No further information is known about Catharina.  However, Paulus is in the next (ninth) generation and will be documented in his own biography.

Maria died on February 2, 1693 and Johannes died on May 6, 1697.  No other information about their lives is available at this writing.  Note that Johannes is shown with the surname Schmidt while all his children are recorded with the name Schmid (without the final t).
